Biography

Glen is a nationally recognized leader the field of securing building contents to keep things in place during an earthquake, with a twenty-year career focused on seismic resilience in hospitals, Universities and life science companies. His current workload involves frequent public speaking engagements and trainings, working with the FEMA QuakeSmart program, the Earthquake Country Alliance, the Central United States Earthquake Consortium, and the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup.

In the past Glen has worked with the Oak Park School District in California in helping them achieve recognition as the first ever school district in the country to receive FEMA recognition for securing building contents and was involved in a California statewide earthquake vulnerability study of food banks. He also assisted in a pilot program in Washington state with the CREW to develop a methodology for securing school contents. This piggy-backed on similar work done developing a seismic bracing protocol for assisted living centers in Kentucky, under the direction of CUSEC.

Locations for Non-Structural Earthquake Damage Mitigation projects Glen has managed include: The USGS earthquake hazards department in Menlo Park, California, Stanford University, UC San Francisco, The University of Southern California, San Ramon Regional Medical Center, The Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Genentech, Roche, Amgen, and Novartis.

Glen’s speaking engagements have included: The International SPONSE Conference, the Oregon Governor’s GOSH Conference, The California Hospital Association annual disaster conference, and the International Facilities Management National Conference.

He also co-authored a white paper published by the engineering non-profit SPONSE on best practices for encompassing non-structural damage mitigation into design
